Examples of Hypothetical Settlement Approaches for Residential Premises with Photovoltaic (PV) Generation ERCOT Load ProfilingJanuary 23, 2008
Introduction Given the outlook for measuring the outflow to the grid from residential photovoltaic (PV) arrays, how could that energy be settled? Some possibilities for allocating the PV-generated outflows: 1. Spread the energy evenly over the entire settlement period 2. Spread the energy evenly over daylight hours 3. Spread the energy over the peak PV-generating hours 4. Apply the scaled shape of a PV profile 5. Determine the difference between a PV profile and a scaled standard load profile to derive both a load shape and a generation shape Following are examples for a very low usage residential high winter ratio (RESHIWR) ESI ID in the North Central weather zone.
PV profile models • If PV profile models were created, PV profiles could be used with or without the standard load profiles to estimate the shape of the PV output to the grid. • To estimate the shape of the PV output to the grid without using a standard load profile, simply scale the PV profile to the ‘kWh out’ value. • To estimate the shape of the PV output to the grid using a standard load profile, scale the standard profile so it can be compared to the PV profile.
PV profile models • PV profiles would also allow for the settlement load shape to allocate the PV-generated energy that was used on site, but not output to the grid. • More on PV profile models • Q: Can we use our cloud cover data to predict PV output? • A: A quick glance shows there may not be a clear relationship...
