    1. NAVIGATION STRATEGY FOR ECAC

    2. Why a Navigation Strategy ? to ensure that Future Navigation and Navigation Infrastructure are designed around and based on Operational Requirements, and NOT on random choice based on technology-driven initiatives to enable compatibility with other EATMP Strategies to allow an adequate decision-making process

    3. Objective to provide a harmonised and integrated common workframe which will allow a cost effective, customer oriented evolution of the European air navigation systems during the period 2000-2015; to provide the basis for : the development of ECAC air navigation applications and supporting infrastructure; and the rationalisation, integration and harmonisation of existing and new air navigation systems; to identify general principles, functions and future work.

    4. General Principles to identify and evolve from the needs and priorities of both users and providers of the navigation systems and services; to take due account of institutional arrangements and legal regulations; to accommodate geographical differences in capabilities, performance requirements, and in the existing and required infrastructure; to enable coherent development plans to be made, both within ECAC and with the neighbouring regions.

    5. achieve a total RNP RNAV environment support the ‘free routes’ concept implement 4D RNAV operations support aircraft with lower capabilities support State aircraft operations ensure quality of navigation data rationalise infrastructure Strategic Streams
