“Embracing Change To Experience Life!” Winning Back Your Joy John 16:22
John 16:22…. “So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.” (NIV)
INTRODUCTION When we “KNOW” the Risen Savior, we “INHERIT” an unquenchable joy!
MAIN POINTS 1. Listen To God's Word Rather Than Your Feelings
Don’t give your “FEELINGS” that much authority and opportunity to rule you. Don’t deny them, but don’t let them be the loudest voice you hear.
Psalm 119:143…. “Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands are my delight.” (NIV)
2. Hang Out With Joyful People
Psalm 118:15…. “Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: ‘The LORD's right hand has done mighty things!’” (NIV)
A good test of worthwhile friendships …. “Do those friends sing songs of joy and talk about victory and positive things instead of negative topics?”
Don't let anyone STEAL your JOY!
3. Confess Your Sin
Psalm 32:2…. “Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.” (NIV)
Before David confessed his sin, he was in agony and without JOY!
Psalm 32:3…. “When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.” (NIV) Once David confessed His sin, his JOY returned!
4. Limit Your Obligations
When you say “yes” to too many things …. you will have less time to read the Bible, pray and sleep.
Instead of loading your schedule from morning to evening with all kinds of things, let God point you to the… RIGHT CHOICES & RESPONSIBILITIES!
Psalm 16:11…. “You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” (NIV)
JOY is found by saying “NO” to some things so you can say “YES” to spending time with God and following His priorities.
5. Be Yourself
God will evaluate how effective you served Him with the gifts He gave to you. God made you to be YOU!
Isaiah 49:5…. “… formed me in the womb to be His servant .” (NIV)
From birth, God has guided your life to fulfill His purposes – whether you are aware of it or not – and whether your life’s journey is smooth sailing or rough.
Note: Don’t compare yourself to others; be all that you can be with the help of the Holy Spirit, in service to your Lord and Savior.
You make a very poor somebody else, but you sure do make a great YOU!
6. Take Hold Of Your Future
Ezra 3:12…. “But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple, wept aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy.” (NIV)
They were sad.... … because these were people who remembered the previous temple, the grand edifice Solomon had build that was destroyed by the Babylonians!
But God wanted to do something new among them and give them a glorious future.
God is sovereign and controls the lives of His people. When you realize and accept that truth – then your will be strong. JOY
Why? … because you UNDERSTANDthat God, rather than your past, determines your future.
7. Focus On God's Promises Rather Than Your Problems
FOCUS Your is like fertilizer. If you FOCUS on your problems, you feed them and they will GROW.
If you FOCUS on God's Promises you “FEED” them and they will GROW!
Psalm 119:93…. “I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life.” (NIV)
CONCLUSION 7 steps to win back your that was ROBBED from your life …. JOY
1. Listen to God's Word rather than your feelings 2. Hang Out with Joyful People
3. Confess your sins 4. Limit Your Obligations 5. Be Yourself
