  3. L’historique • In 1989 in southern France • a few friends called themselves les Accro-Branchés • commercially developed the activity l’accrobranche • National Union of Supervisor Climbers in Trees (SNGEA) in 2000 • Federation of Climbing Trees and Related Activities (FGA-AA) in 2007

  4. Comment jouer et techniques • Équipement: rope (corde), helmet (casque), harness (harnais) • Hammocks/”Treeboats” and portaledges for picnic (pique-nique) and nap (sieste) • 1) Free climbingnot recommended given the inherent risk of falling

Techniques (suite) • 2) Double Rope Technique (DdRT) Self belay the climber in a way that the rope can be retrieved without going back up the treeOne end of the rope is fastened to the climber’s harness, then the rope passes around the tree and back to a friction hitch that is attached to the climber • 3) Single Rope Technique (SRT) For getting to the top of large trees that are not easy to climbA throw line, an attached weight, and a launching system (a bow/slingshot) can anchor a climbing rope to a branch very high in the tree • 4) Lead Climbing (have drawbacks) Points of protection are formed by girthing the tree’s limbs with slingsOnce the lead climber ascends the tree, he/she may create a belay or top rope anchor
