The Background Lampton • Training School from 2000 with a history of collaboration through GTP, as a Humanities College, as a Beacon School • HT was an NLE involved in London Challenge and so a history of school to school support • Pilot National Teaching School which was an OLEVI Centre delivering • OTP/ ITP / TLIP • School to school support • ASTs

  4. Stage 1 .. The first 12 – 18 months The Foundations The big picture: moral purpose Membership c. 15 schools Defining factor: known and trusted • Local HTs – mostly from the LA or ex LA • Some HTs with shared background in London Challenge • Predominantly secondary – little primary • Mostly outstanding / good Making a positive difference in the lives of our students through • Improving teaching and learning and student achievement • Support for schools in a vacuum • Developing school leaders

  6. Structure needed .. To bring this into reality Knowledge management/ growing Social capital Co-creating new knowledge for current challenges • Use of the Teaching School programmes to bring different phases and schools together • Challenge Partner – central meetings for HTs • Local hub HT meetings • SLEs appointed early to assist in knowledge transfer • Subject meetings • Working groups (Big 6) • Leadership development programmes (with external partners) • Planning and creation of School Direct across 8 secondary schools

Stage 2: developing the infrastructure – beyond the inner circle Membership Growth of the hub …shared ownership • About 22+ schools – beyond the inner circle • Schools seeking help (many RI) in the absence of LA expertise • Beyond our LA • Lost 2 schools to set up their own hubs • Impact of ‘programmes’ on the credibility of the alliance/ hub • Outsourcing of OTP/ ITP to other schools with Lampton support – especially into primary schools • Delegation of key School Direct activities to the hub – programme construction/ interviews/ QA • Capacity building for the ‘big programmes’ through hub leadership: CtG. Funding • School to school support – an alliance responsibility

Key idea … the power of the collective / many gifts Growing the knowledge capital – investing in the future The Power of the Collective but the need for strategic development • Challenge the Gap – bid writing/ funding identification Project management/ developing hubs and capacity building at all levels • The Maths programmes – beyond a local initiative • EAL development • Programmes from conception to product • School Direct – school hubs

Stage 3 … now Membership Importance of shared benefits • 36 schools • Word of mouth / impact of programmes and initiatives / promotion of Senior Leaders to headships • Across authorities and London • Increasing numbers of primary schools (now 50/50) • Investment in infrastructure and staffing - significant • School Direct / Researchers in Schools shared across the alliance • Hosting Teaching School programmes across alliance • Problem – solving • Succession planning and Leadership development opportunities • Access to HMIs e.g. Maths/ Literacy/ Ofsted • CP – Project management
