Avoiding Professional Isolation • Very well supported GPST • 3rd August , 5pm greeting card, chocolates • Next day  you are on your own, no trainer in the next room! • Different computer systems! • Uncertainty, vulnerability, sense of isolation.... • Job, QOF, staff, revalidation, family.....

  5. How? • Have regular breaks

  6. How? • Network – face to face and ? Privacy protected Twitter / Face book / Yahoo or Google groups!!! • Young Practitioners Group, Balint Groups etc • Also helps to find jobs- not only locums and salaried, but partnerships as well....

  7. How? • Mentor • Helps to guide you through difficult times • Experienced GPs, TPDs, GP tutors or any well known personalities

  8. How? • Develop a special interest • Not only the usual specialities, consider others for ex: Botox, Urgent Care, Teaching and training etc.

  9. How? • Step back  High demand for GPs • Work smart  9 sessions partner Vs 6 sessions and locums 9 sessions partner: £110,000 pa 6 sessions : £ 80,000 pa Locum : £ 28,800pa (£360X 2 X 40) 6 sessions+Locum: £ 108,800pa

  10. How? • Exercise • Hobbies • Social circle outside work • etc

  12. YPG-Top tips • Ground work- current status, funding, invitations • Be clear with date, time and venue, not to clash with other events. • First meeting: introductions, future planning... • Involve group members • Key to success is effective communication and choosing topics

  13. YPG-top tips • Yahoo group or similar • Keep the group open to new members • Review learning needs and plan • Finally  feed back • YPG life span : 5 yrs
