What do we know about the natural history of planet Earth? Our planet formed from dust left over when a massive cloud of cold dilute gas and dust condensed to form the Sun 4.6 billion years ago. The Moon formed from remnants of a collision between Orpheus and the Earth after the Great Iron Catastrophe formed the Earth's core. Our planet's surface was initially too hot to form a crust.
