Feeding Families: Pueblo HS's $11K Campaign

1. Pueblo HS NHS: The Case for ………. $11K in 2011 • The Facts/ Faces of Hunger in Pima County • Children: • Over 50,000 children living at or below Federal Poverty Level • Children represent 40% of all food bank’s clients • Seniors/ Elderly: • Tough economic times for our elderly … many have to choose between food and other essentials (medical/ utilities/ housing/ etc ) • Represent 12% of all food bank’s clients • Working Poor • 45% of our households are working poor- folks who work but do not earn enough to be self-sufficient • 13% of families in Tucson receive SNAP (food stamps) • Pueblo HS • Approximately 75% of PHS students receives reduced/ free lunch Tough economic times means families are struggling to put food on the table; Someone you know receives assistance from the Community Food Bank.

2. Pueblo HS NHS: The Case for ………. $11K in 2011 • Tucson Community Food Bank (TCFB) plays a major role in food assistance • Is Efficient…. Ranked as 7th Best Managed out of 5,500 Non-Profit Organization in the US in 2009 • Over $ .97 of every $1.00 donated goes directly to food and food bank programs • (almost un-heard of in charitable organizations !) • Less than $ .03 of every $1.00 donated goes to administrative costs • (utilities/ rent/ insurance/ salaries/ etc) • For every $1.00 donated, the food bank can distribute $10.00 worth of food • (TCFB teams with other food banks for increased buying power …. Generic brands ) • This dollar donation will provide meals for a family of four! Worthy cause … Worthy effort Tucson Community Food Bank efficiently fills a void to put food on the table

3. Pueblo HS NHS: The Case for ………. $11K in 2011 • Now assuming that two cans sell for $1.00. With $1.00 you can donate two cans to the Community Food Bank. • = $1.00 • But if you donate that same dollar to the Community Food Bank, the Food Bank can then purchase $10.00 worth of cans or 20 cans!!!!! • = $1.00 Worthy cause … Worthy effort Tucson Community Food Bank efficiently fills a void to put food on the table

4. Pueblo HS NHS: The Case for ………. $11K in 2011 • The Vision: • Pueblo HS to raise $11,000.00 of buying power for the Community Food Bank by Christmas Break. • Goal is the have every Pueblo HS student/ faculty/staff donate at least $1.00 • ‘$10K in 2010’ • That is $1,000.00 for all you math majors ! • If goal is reached …. Will allow Community Food Bank to purchase $11,000.00 of food • Is inclusive for all Pueblo HS students/ faculty/ staff/ alumni to participate. • Everyone participates – Everyone is recognized once goal is meet ! • Why ?? • Tremendous personal satisfaction in knowing that your donation will have a worthy & important impact in our community and will help someone you know! • Help our reputation!!! Vision is aggressive; Need is urgent; Help make a difference in your community !!
