  5. Chapter 2 – The English and the Norse • both sides divided, plagued by conflict • Norse battle prowess compensates • English armies and lands disorganised • important battles

  6. Chapter 3 – Traces today • discoveries and remnants of the Old Tongue - treasure - weapons and armour - settlements - words, names of places

  7. The Vikings conquered vast lands • proved themselves to be settlers • conquered used as stepping stones • invaders feared because of the unknown • memories still scar the land
