C - Connotation • Contemplate the poem for meaning beyond the literal. Make observations about the diction and record powerful words that contribute to mood and/or tone
I - Imagery • Record powerful images. Sight, touch, taste, smell, sound
S- Symbols • Look for things that have a deeper meaning. • Dove = peace • Rose = love • Snake = evil
T- Tone • Observe the speaker’s/poet’s tone. Use your tone list.
T - Theme • After all of this thoughtful analysis, what is the theme of the poem?
