Our Mission • To promote stewardship of lakes and freshwater resources.
Our Mission • To encourage young people to pursue education, especially the sciences.
Choose Freshwater Forever • The Great Lakes Watershed holds 20% or one-fifth of the world’s available freshwater. • Each year rainfall and snowfall replenish only about 1% of the water in lakes, rivers and aquifers. • The other 99% is finite and nonrenewable.
Protect Lake Michigan • Human and industrial use of water can accelerate lower lake levels. • The products we buy use water: • Loaf of bread = 10.5 gallons • Hamburger = 623 gallons • Tee shirt = 1,083 gallons
Grand Traverse Bay Watershed • Area = 973 square miles • Volume = 9.9 trillion gallons • Shoreline = 132 miles • Sub-watersheds = 9 • Jurisdictions • 4 counties • 44 townships • 11 municipalities
Great Lakes Coastal Education Project • Presentations at the Inland Seas Education Center • Hands-on activities aboard the schooner Inland Seas • Partnerships for local projects
