  5. Business Improvement District • Not-for-profit-corporation • established in1993 • aim: -promote NY City´s apparel industry -improve quality of life and economic vitality

  6. Is New York the fashion capital of the world ? • Positive aspects: -accumulation of good traits -Mercedes-Benz fashion week • negative aspects: -promotion of anorexia among models -exploitation of Third World workers

  7. Apparel Industry Task Force • Rids the garment Industry of illegal sweatshops • inspects working conditions • do a review of employmentof illegal workers

  8. Apparel Industry Task Force • Support garment factures which provide -unemployment -good working conditions • collected $ 12 million for workers
