THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYERJOHN 14:13-14 “The Unchangeableness of God’s Word” Hebrew 13:8
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • There are assurances that we have from God that he will hear and answer our prayers. • God is not a man so does he lie. • He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it out? (Num. 23:19). Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • When one wants to give assurance to their word, they usually take an oath. • Men swear by a greater(than themselves) and with them in all disputes. • The oath taken for conformation is the final ending of all strife. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • God also in his desire to show more convincingly and beyond doubt to those who were to inherit the promise, the unchangeableness of his purpose and plan meditatedwith an oath. • So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. • (Heb.6:18). Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • Whatever God set before us, he will fulfill. • The bible says that Abraham staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief. • But was strong in faith giving glory to God; and being fully persuaded that what he had promised he was able to perform • (Rom. 4:20). Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • The word “staggered,” means: • to be divided, to distinguish or separate. In other words, move away from God promises. • To refuse God’s word over your circumstances will cause doubt or staggering. • You must have faith and trust in God and expect an answer when you pray. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • Whatever, you shall ask in “my name”. • My name represents: • In character, • In reputation, • In authority, • In worthiness, • That will I do that the Father might be glorified in the Son. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • A name is a representative of the person and is used of persons, whether divine or human. • He shared in (Matt.6;9) • After this manner, therefore, pray ye our Father who art in heaven hollowed be thy name: • His name says all that he is- • Omnipotence-all powerful, • Omnipresence-ever present, • Omniscience-all knowing. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • He is Jehovah our provider, our righteousness, our peace, our healer. • All of this and more is included in his name. • He assures us that we could approach the Father in his name, to ask anything, because of our union with him. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • However, what we ask must be in conformable to his character, and his will. • Remember it the purpose of God’s will that will stand. • There are many devices or (plans) in a man’s heart; nevertheless, the counsel of the Lord shall stand. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • We know that all things work together for good to them that love God; to them who called according to his purpose. • We have the assurance that he hears us (Rom.8:28). Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • John 15:7 states that if we abide in him, and his word abides in us we can ask what we will, and he promised he would do it. • However in 1John 3:22, there are two things that assures us that we will receive what we ask from him by keeping his word and doing the things that please him. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • 1John 3:22, says this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything in according to his will (or purpose) he hears us: • And we know (are assured) that he hears us whatsoever we ask we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
THE ASSURANCE IN PRAYER • However, this is one of the reasons we have to renew our minds, so we can know his will for our life. • Moreover, when we pray according to that we know we have the assurance; that the purpose for our lives will be fulfilled. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH PURPOSE • Paul prayed two powerful prayers in (Eph.1:16-23; 3:14-20) Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH PURPOSE FIRST PRAYER • In the first prayer he asks God to give him the spirit of wisdom, and revelation in the knowledge of him. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH PURPOSE SPIRITUAL WISDOM • Spiritual wisdom is the knowledge of how to regulate our relationship with him. • It unveils the knowledge that would help us influence others to turn to him. • The eyes of our understanding will be open, so we would have an inner awareness of this hope. • This hope in our assurance of eternal life guaranteed by the present of the Holy Spirit. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH PURPOSE • 2Tim 1:9, says,Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began… • We have a rich inheritance in God that we need to know about. • It can only be found by the Spirit of God opening it up to us. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH PURPOSE • The scripture says, eyes have not seen nor ears heard, and it has not entered into the heart of man all that God has prepared (made and keep ready) for those who love him. • That is reverence, prompted by obeying him and gratefully recognizing the benefit he has bestowed for them (AMP). Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH PURPOSE Because we believe the gospel, we are marked in him with the seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possessions to the praise of his glory (Eph. 1:12-14). Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH PURPOSE • In the first prayer, it shows the power of God when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly. • Far above all principality and power and might, and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this world but in that which is to come. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH PURPOSE • Furthermore, he has made him head of the church, and all things were put under his feet. • Therefore, Christ could fill his body with his presence. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH PURPOSE • However, God raised us up to sit with Christ in heavenly places, so in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH PIRPOSE • Christ gave us power to ask anything in his name, and he said I will do it. • ( John.14:13; 14:13; 14:13; Mark 11:24) • What things so ever you desire when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them. • Jesus spoke this from the authority of his Father. • Paul’s prayer was also sealed by this authority. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH ASSURANCE SECOND PRAYER • Paul’s second prayer was filled with more of the same, that God through the power of his spirit would strengthen us in our inner man, so that Christ dwells within our hearts by faith. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH ASSURANCE • In addition, he prayed that all the saints would grasp how wide and long, and high and deep is the love of Christ. Furthermore, that we be filled to the full measure of the fullness of God. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
TWO PRAYERS WITH ASSURANCE • This is the assurance that we have, on the authority of Christ’s word that if we ask anything in his name, the Father will hear us. Paul asked this in his second prayer, for us to have inner awareness, and be filled with the full measure of Christ. Dr. Ralph Godfrey Sr.
