Students apply for admission to program • SFU admission standards must be met • Eligible students are also granted admission to Douglas College • Students can attend either or both institutions • SFU residency requirements set maximum limit on “transfer credits” • Transfer credits processed every semester Program Overview
University Transfer not ‘One Direction’ • Permission not required to take College courses • Convenience: • Registrars’ Offices at Douglas and SFU automatically track student progress • Flexibility: • Students study at both institutions with full support from both sides Benefits of Partnership
More Services Available: • Medical/Dental Coverage, Student Housing (i.e., if registered is sufficient number of SFU courses) • More Cost Effective: • College courses typically cost less. • More Course Options: • Access to a greater variety of courses, instructors and learning opportunities. • More Face-to-Face Contact at College: • Smaller classes at Douglas mean more interaction with instructors and fellow students. Students will have to agree to information exchange upon entering the program • Information will flow back and forth between institutions each semester to update transcripts • No action is required on the part of students • A cumulative GPA will be calculated “behind students’ transcripts” for joint scholarships and academic standing Transcripts/Records
Importance of “home institution” • Students are eligible for Financial aid opportunities at the institution where they are taking the most credits each term or, in the case of athletic scholarships, where they are playing • The home institution is responsible for: • processing applications and monitoring compliance • Joint awards will be established for the program Financial Aid Issues
Student activity fees “follow the tuition.” • Students attending both institutions will pay two sets of fees. Note fees are prorated according to number of credits. • Student society fees “follow the tuition” • Students may opt out of medical/dental Student Services
Academic standards compatible • Academic policies (e.g. grade appeals, academic dishonesty) “follow the tuition” • SFU degree requirements (e.g., WQB) apply • Academic advising at SFU by designated advisor • Student performance Information exchanged and “pooled” (e.g., instances of academic discipline) Academic Issues
