4. The Partitive article The partitive article expresses an unspecified amount. In English we use “some,” “any,” or we leave it out altoghether to express the partitive.

5. The partitivie article vs. the definitive article Verbs indicating likes and dislikes (aimer/adorer/ détester) are followed by the definite article (you like something in general) – all other verbs are followed by the partitive (you only buy/want a part/some of that thing).

6. The negative of the partitive article • All forms of the partitive (du, de la, de l’, and des change to de (d’) after a negative (ne… pas AND ne… plus) • However, the definite article does not change in the negative. (J’aime les crevettes. Je n’aime pas les crevettes).
