3. What is Clause Logic? • An automated tool • Uses FAR/DFARS prescriptive language • Uses business rules / logic statements • Uses solicitation or contract data • Recommends appropriate clauses • Does not replace PCO responsibility • Not all clauses can be automated

4. Why Clause Logic? • Apply business rules / clause logic to user-entered data to automatically select and recommend appropriate clauses

5. What is the Basic Concept of Clause Logic? • Clause rules are used to limit, or focus, the instances when clauses are appropriate. • A clause rule can be created which has no limitations, or with one or more limitations. • A clause rule acts as a true-false switch.

6. What Data is Required? • Document type (PIIN) • Product type (Characteristic) • Estimated value of the acquisition (total of line item values) • Contract type (line item detail)

7. What Does Additional Data Provide? • Additional data more accurately defines the requirement. • Additional data more accurately defines the contract. • Additional data allows clause logic to more accurately recommend clauses.

8. Where Did Clause Logic Come From? • Developed by a joint Government / AMS team • All services represented on clause logic team • Extensively tested and accepted by SPS PMO • Transitioned to SPS Committee of the DAR Council

Regulatory changes are published. 2. Recommended clause logic is developed and staffed. 3. Comments and recommendations are provided. 4. Clause logic changes are approved or disapproved. 5. Approved clause logic changes forwarded to PMO. 6. Approved clause logic changes forwarded to Contracting Officer. 7. Clause logic changes provided to AMS and posted to database for PMO review. 8. What is the user’s responsibility? • Know the requirement • Describe the requirement properly in PD2 • Provide public comment on FAR and DFARS Cases • Use component-prescribed policy processes • Use component-prescribed process for PD2 support • Follow component-prescribed process for CLS support
