Pros and Cons of Social Media Users say the sites are good for our society, but others say that the dangers of social media outweigh the benefits.
Pros Connectivity Gives you the ability to easily connect with a variety of people and organizations that you know, or have an interest in. Showcase Your Work Upload work you’ve done, like your photography, your portfolio, and mock ideas (media majors), so employers can see what you’re capable of. Supporters argue that online websites promote communication with friends and family, familiarize people with valuable computer skills, and allow contact with people from around the world.
Cons Improper Use Improper use can cost you a job, whether you are searching or already have one. Your “ghosts” can haunt a search Blogs or a website you are no longer actively updating or using may still come up in an internet search for you. Opponents argue that sites expose children to predators, increase vulnerability to computer viruses, lower worker productivity, and promote narcissism and short attention spans. Personal Info Personal info: gender, age, sexual orientation, favorite movie, statuses (good or bad) will be open to the social media public, even if you’re on private in some cases.
Watch what you put on your statuses and Twitter updates. They could say more about you than your resume.
When starting the process Comb through your social media profiles and delete pictures and statuses that may seem inappropriate.
