  8. Audit vs. Research • Research determines what is best practice i.e. to provide new knowledge • Clinical audit determines if we are following best practice

  9. Clinical Audits • It is a learning process • To improve health of patients and not a witch hunt • Should not be threatening to those being evaluated

Steps in Audit • Choose a topic • Select criteria • Set standards (with justification) • Preparation & Planning • 1st data collection, comparison with standards and analysis of data • Changes and actions taken • 2nd data collection, comparison with 1st data collection and standards • Final results and conclusions
