Agates are grounding stones that bring emotional, physical, and intellectual balance.  The unique curving cut of this particular agate is deeper than you might gather at first glance, in fact, the arching "handle" of the setting is a tracing of the stone's profile.   I spent years with this stone on my jewelry bench before the moment felt right to create a setting.  My thoughts have been on the transition for 2023 to 2024 and when I finished the pendant I realized my many tiny design decisions had led to a form that looks like a handbag (or a padlock), and I started to think about what I'm carrying with me (what I've chained myself to)... physically, emotionally, and relationally. What tension do I carry in my body day after day?  What stories do I tell myself over and over that could be released?  Are there patterns in my relationship that don't serve me or my loved ones?   This gemstone necklace is a reminder to bring awareness to the things we carry so we can make deliberate choices about what to set down, shuck, shake off, release or unlock.
