Recap of Last Year • Induction Ceremony: Feb. 15, 2011 • Inducted 9 collegiate members, 1 honorary, 1faculty • Fall Leadership Seminar Series • Mr. Bakari Sellers, Dr. Jim Withers, Mrs. Cindy Grosso • 8th year hosting event • Attendance: 30 to over 100 participants per session • Leadership Conference: Jan. 29, 2011 • Over 200 participants • Speaker: Craig Zablocki- “Taking Charge of Your Life: The Ultimate Leadership Skills for Success” • Etiquette Dinner: Nov. 18, 2010 • Anson Restaurant • Speaker: Cindy Grosso
Recap of Last Year • Awards Program • Submitted nominations for national awards in: • Proctor and Gamble National Leadership Award (Dr. Amy Blue) • Chapter Alumnus of the Year Award (Col. Mike Heath) • Founder’s Award (Kevin Curler) • Charles Thomas Leadership Challenge • PLS Annual Meeting • 12 chapter members attended in Seattle • Col. Mike Heath received alumnus of the year award • Leadership Challenge Proposal • Leadership Summit
Orientation Activities • Poster and presentation on 2nd floor • Increase visibility • Promote leadership and involvement to P1’s • Small presentation to P1 class • Promoted PLS events • Promote leadership and involvement
Induction of New Membersand Applications • Will start promoting mid-fall semester • Flyers and class talks with P2’s • Interviews?? • Induction date of new members • APhA Annual Meeting: New Orleans, March 9-12, 2012 (earlier this year) • Week of Jan. 31, 2012? • Applications due beginning of December and Interviews will be held beginning of January
Leadership Challenge (New & Old) • Last Year’s Challenge • Leadership Summit?? • Supposed to take place at end of April • Plan on having the Summit and will contact MUSC SGA for funding • This Year’s Challenge • “Leadership in the age of Social Networking” • Social networking must be some part of the overall program • Deadline: Jan. 31, 2012 • Possibility: Leadership Elective Course • Other ideas??? • The Exec. Board is currently working on the challenge
Grant Submission • Grant submitted to National Office • Received Aug. 23, 2011 • Will help with funding for Leadership Conference • Status?? • Still waiting to hear back from national
Events • Fall Leadership Seminar Series • 1st Seminar: Gary Cooper Aug. 29th • Meeting went very well with Gary and received all positive feedback from the SurveyMonkey that was sent out • 2nd Seminar: “The Medical Home Model”-Monday, Sept. 26th @12pm in BSB 100 • Student Activities Fair • Wednesday, Sept. 7th 11:30-1:15pm in Horseshoe • Etiquette Dinner • Campus-wide? • Ideas?? • Planning on a date in November and currently working on location. Cindy Grosso will be contacted as guest speaker
Events • Leadership Conference • Jan. 21, 2012 at Trident Facility • Speaker-Don Yaeger (http://www.donyaeger.com/) • “What Makes the Great Ones Great?” “What is Greatness?” “Building and Maintaining Your Personal Brand” • Clarion Competition • Need to start identifying judges and mentors • Letter of Support • Teamed up with SIPS • CV and Interviewing Workshop with Rho Chi • Tentative date: Tuesday, Oct. 11th 5:30-7:30 • Sponsor-Target • Presentations on interview skills and CV/Resumes, then mock interviews • P2 encouragement • The date above for the CV workshop is now CONFIRMED-flyers will go up soon
Awards • APhA Foundation Student Scholarship Program • Total of 12 annual scholarships (1 $1500, 11 $1000) • General Criteria: One academic year completed, 2.75 GPA, active member in APhA-ASP*** • Deadline: Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 • Will attach documents to minutes • Other awards listed on PLS website • Nominations at November meeting
