Most Baby Animals Look Like Their Parents Most baby animals in the natural world look like their parents when they are born. Dolphins are a good example of this.
Dolphin Life Cycle • Dolphins produce babies every 2 or 3 years • Dolphin mothers are pregnant for around 1 year before their baby is born • Dolphins are born tail first. Soon after it is born its mother will push it to the surface to allow it to breathe. • In just a few minutes after being born, it can swim and take itself to the surface to breathe.
Life of a Baby Dolphin A baby dolphins is called a calf. It feeds on milk from it’s mother for their first year of it’s life. It stays with it’s mother for up to 8 years until it is able to mate and produce a family of it’s own.
Dolphin Families Dolphins travel in groups that we call a pod. These are sometimes family groups of mother, father, children and babies. Dolphins generally live to the age of 30 years.
