  1. STUDY the following quizzes (and the notes that go with them) on netschool:-Internal/External Stimulus Quiz-Stimulus Response Inheritance Quiz (this on does not link)-Asexual/Sexual Reproduction Quiz-Genetic Material Quiz

  2. Know the difference between: external stimulus(like someone throwing a ball at your head) -internal stimulus (stomach aching because of hunger).

  3. Homeostasis keeps your body functions balanced and functioning properly. Some examples of this would be breathing hard and your heart beating fast while you run. Once you stop running your heart beat and breathing gradually return to a resting state.

  4. Tropisms: Plants are attracted to certain features in nature…. -Hydrotropism-plant roots grow toward water -Phototropism-plants grow toward sunlight -Geotropism-Plant roots are attracted to the Earth

  5. Stimulus →Response in an organism is like Cause →Effect

  6. External = outside of the body • Internal = inside of the body

  7. Heredity: the passing of genetic information from one generation to the next

  8. Chromosomes are found inside the nucleus of every cell. They contain genetic material (DNA that is filled with genes).

  9. Turgor Pressure: Water pressure in the vacuoles of plant cells causes the plant to stand up. If the plant looses water, it looses turgor pressure and wilts (droops)

  10. Inherited traits are traits that you get form your parents such as: hair color, eye color, shape of your face, curly hair vs. straight. • Physical traits like a scar, a burn, or a tattoo are not inherited traits! • Learned traits come from your environment like the language you speak or the ability to read.

  11. Asexual Reproduction • There is only 1 parent • Produces offspring that are genetically identical (uniform) to the parent. • Can reproduce quickly and create large numbers of that organism

  12. Sexual Reproduction • Have 2 parents (genetic donors) • The offspring (kids) are never genetically identical to the parents. • Genetic variations help these organisms adapt to their ever-changing environments. This increases the chance of species survival

  13. Looking low to High on a Microscope: • 1 Cell • 2 Nucleus • 3 Chromosome • 4 Gene

  14. To find total magnification of a compound microscope, you must MULTIPLY the eyepiece and the objective lens. Example: -Eyepiece = 10 -Objective Lens = 1000 10 X 1000 = 10000 magnification
