A Note to Parents from Commissioner King “I want to make it very clear that the change in test scores (including, possibly, one in your child's score) does not mean that students are learning less or that teachers and schools are performing worse than last year. Proficiency rates – the percentage of students meeting or exceeding the standards – on the new Common Core assessments cannot be compared with last year’s proficiency results since the old scores are from an old test based on the former standards. This is a new beginning and starting point that will provide better, clearer information to parents, teachers, and principals about what our children know and are able to do. SCEP Goals School leadership, staff , students and families focus on instruction • All goals below will be measured by the overall achievement target: 85% of all K-6 grade level cohorts of students will meet NWEA Levels of Proficiency targets by June, 2014. These targets will be based upon the September, 2013 NWEA ELA and Math benchmark assessment results. • Students in each grade level cohort, for Grades 3-6, will increase by 10% in overall achievement levels, as measured on the NYS ELA and Math assessments. • Maintain 100% on the School Evaluation Tool (SET) for the School –Wide Positive Behavioral Systems (SWPBS) in place for all tier 1, 2, and 3 social emotional supports, as measured by SET, Spring 2013 by June, 2014. • School #12 families engage in one or more school and our student’s activities (Picnic Orientation, Open House, 5 Title 1 Activities, Parent Meetings or other forums)

How do we do this? • Focus on curriculum- lesson planning to reflection on student performance • PD for teachers- embedded into the day and deep conversations about instruction • Parent informational sessions on how the understand the CCSS, how to help at home, and how to participate in learning within the school • Targeted and differentiated lessons to enrich and support students to reach/ exceed grade level expectations

What are we doing (and what did we do) to make this growth? • Instructional Focus- Data Driven Instruction (DDI) • Implemented CCSS for ELA (K-5) and fully for K-6 in ELA and Math this year • Use of Student Academic Support (SAS) funds to drive intervention and enrichment groups- focus on ELA • Implemented new Spanish interventions • Differentiation as school-wide focus • Accelerate and support • Focus on data for planning and delivery • Data Team and grade level release to address students’ needs • Collegial conversations and student work analysis-grade level • Administrative feedback to teachers through ongoing walk throughs and observations/assessments • Professional Development to support our targets and goals. • Highly functioning SBPT

What are we doing (and what did we do) to make this growth? • Highly Engaged Parental and Community Involvement • On-going communication between home and school • Active PTA group • Focus on increasing this connection further through SBPT targets and goals • A cohort of parent and community volunteers
