Learning goals from Delta’s International Students-International Faculty course • Course level goals - Students will be able to: • Express a deeper understanding of and appreciation for diverse cultures • Describe specific ways to create an inclusive classroom environment • Design effective learning experiences for all students • Articulate one’s own approach to teaching and learning • Program level goal - Students will be able to: • Describe ways to implement strategies founded upon TAR, LC and LtD in their classrooms • 2.) Assessment and evaluation strategies • Course level assessment • Class assignments • Class projects • Student Assessment of Learning Gains (SALG) online evaluation survey • Program levelassessment • Demographic information collected in courses and entered into program-wide participation • database. • Program-wide online survey with questions about: • Satisfaction • Learning about the pillars • Application of the pillar concepts • 3.) Evaluation challenges • High dosage participants asked to complete many surveys may experience fatigue

Example pillar-focused learning goals from CCLE and EL • Participants will: • Develop their ability to collaborate (LC). • Explore diverse learning and teaching experiences (LtD). • Read educational literature and discuss it with colleagues from diverse backgrounds • (TAR, LC, LtD). • Develop the ability to implement change in their classroom(s) (TAR). • Identify diverse ways to assess student learning & evaluate classroom practices • (LtD, TAR) • 2.) Assessment and evaluation strategies • Course level assessment • Mid-point evaluation survey to identify and address and issues • End-of-experience evaluation survey to be used formatively to improve the offering Program level assessment • Participation and demographic data collected and tracked in program database • Program-wide online survey with questions about: • Satisfaction • Learning about the pillars • Application of the pillar concepts • 3.) Evaluation challenges • High dosage participants asked to complete many surveys may experience fatigue • Adapting evaluation instruments for programs like EL which have altered focus • each year (e.g. diversity, social justice, the first-year experience, lecturing,)

  3. Delta Capstone Example: The Certificate Program • 1.) Example capstone experience goals: • Certificate recipients will demonstrate: • Knowledge of foundational research and scholarship on teaching and learning • Application of research skills to the improvement of student learning • Awareness of ways to promote successful learning with diverse audiences • Experience in teaching, broadly defined to include the college classroom and beyond • Engaged membership in a learning community that is focused on teaching and learning • 2. Assessment and evaluation strategies • Participants complete a teaching and learning portfolio which documents their: • Knowledge • Application • Impact on student learning • Understanding and application of the pillars • 3.) Evaluation challenges • Need a survey to gauge student experience after they finish the Certificate process • These highest dosage participants may experience survey fatigue • Need time and resources to analyze teaching and learning portfolios for evidence of • program impact
