Interface Standards in HCS?! Seungtaek Lee – DIA SIG at SBS 2007
PerkinElmer and Interface Standards • Each HCS lab is typically equipped with a zoo of instruments and image analysis tools • Qualified (i.e. with necessary meta information) image exchange is essential for the users to obtain results • Therefore PerkinElmer supports efforts for an image data exchange standard, such as OME-TIFF • Please note: Support for “image data exchange standard“ does not mean that internal data formats should be standardized, as each instrument probably has different requirements
Example HCS Workflow HCS Imaging Instrument Image Data Management Solution Result Export using standardized Interfaces Image / Data Exchange Tools using standardized Interfaces Compound Management Screening Results Management & QC (tools identical to / the same as in HTS) Visualization Reporting (G)UIs Image Display using standardized Interfaces
Application Specific Standards • One instrument can be used for various applications, e.g. small molecule screens and RNAi screens • App Standard A for small molecule screen/project • App Standard B for RNAi screen/project • Need to secure the quality of the data exchange between users through standards such as the Mlxx standards • Image data exchange standards should support and facilitate MIxx standards, and the MIxx standards should – for economical reasons – make use of other standards, such as “image data exchange standards“.
