We created a GANNT chart to effectively manage our time throughout the project
We recognize the opportunity to create an educational and profitable exhibit. -Goal: To increase tourism while educating on STEM principles
We determined our specifications by evaluating the customer needs from the team charter. -Meets projected budget of $10,000 -Safe for Age Group -Enjoyable/ Educational -Aesthetically pleasing -Teaches structural principles -Re-simulatable -Recyclable -Marketable
When brainstorming, we came up with four main ideas to choose from. 1. Construction/Destruction 2. Circuit 3. Video 4. Tour Group
In a Construction and Destruction exhibit, the population will build a bridge and perform tests to simulate the forces that structures are up against.
In a circuit based exhibit, the population will go through different stations that will contribute to a final product.
In a video based exhibit, the population will be in a movie theater type environment to learn about structures in an auditory type fashion.
In a tour based exhibit, the population will walk through a room with a tour guide lecturing about different structural principles.
When evaluating our ideas, we screened and weighed each idea based on the concepts that need to be included with each idea.
We decided to continue with the circuit, while incorporating parts from our other ideas.
We surveyed people of all ages to determine the details of our circuit. 1.Broad topics (29 people) Specific topics (27 people) 2.10-20 minute long exhibit (31 people) 20-30 minute long exhibit (18 people) 30+ minute long exhibit (6 people)
We decided to have a four station circuit to educate the population on broad structural topics. 1. Materials Station 2. Forces Station 3. Building Station 4. Testing Station
The Materials stations will lecture on how to make bridges and what to make them with. -Wood (provided) -Steel -Concrete
The forces station will lecture on forces that can disrupt the harmony of bridges
The building station will allow the people to build their bridges using balsa wood and glue
