  1. Agency Technology PlansState of NC IT Advisory Board Meeting November 14, 2006

  2. Technology Plans Mandate and Schedule • GS 147-33.72B mandates that each executive agency shall develop a biennial agency information technology plan. • Plans are due to the SCIO by October 1 of each even numbered year. (All but one of the primary departments submitted plans.) • The SCIO is to assist agencies in preparing their plans. We established the template and provided training.

  3. Templates Agencies were asked to focus on four key areas: • Departmental Strategic Business Initiatives and Major Business Requirements • Transitioning Existing Activities and Resources • Current Projects • Applications • Infrastructure • Operations and IT Management • Human Resources • IT Specific Economic Driven Requirements or Opportunities • IT Initiatives.

  4. Results • In general, plans submitted this year are better than those submitted in the past. • For some agencies, there is a clear link between business strategies and the IT initiatives that support them. These agencies have disciplined processes and governance models. • However, others still struggle with the management of IT.

  5. Results • Agencies used the data from Application Portfolio Management to help explain the future directions for applications. • Agencies see the value in improving processes through the adoption of ITIL and Project Management offices. • Setting priorities is still very difficult for agencies. Their lists of initiatives are too long, and generally were not prioritized along with the APM Roadmap.

  6. Potential Enterprise Projects • Document Management • Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence • GIS • VOIP • Network Infrastructure/other infrastructure • Web Content Management • Telework/Disaster Recovery/BCP/COOP • Case Management

  7. Potential Enterprise Projects • Asset Management/Discovery • Conference Management • Telework/Mobile Device Security and Use • Cost Accounting for IT • CRM • Training Management

  8. Next Steps • Expansion Budget requests are due in November 15th. • ITS staff will review all expansion budget items to be sure they are consistent with agency IT plans. • The SCIO’s Technology Plan is due to the General Assembly on February 1. • Question for members—Do you want copies of any or all of the plans?
