  2. How did we get here? Most programs Started with Music Ed. and Performance, adding Jazz later (mediocre) UNF Initially limited to Voice and Piano. Strings eventually added. Jazz Rich Matteson/Ira Koger Bunky Green GAJS (Dual Mission) Classical Gary Smart/ Performers Certificate/ No Classical majors in 2000/developed BM Gordon/Band program initiated by Jazz Faculty fro Jazz Program to stay relevant/ Full NASM Accreditation Simon Shiao/Orchestra Krzysztof Biernacki/Opera Cara Tasher/Choral Community partners: Cummer Family, JSO, RFAA, BFAS, AICMS, Bridge, Body and Soul

Down Beat is an American magazine devoted to "jazz, blues and beyond". • established in 1934 in Chicago, Illinois. • publishes results of annual surveys in a variety of categories. • Jazz Hall of Fame includes winners from both the readers' and critics' poll. • '1-Star to 5-Star' maximum rating system • Student Awards for solo/ensemble performances and compositions and arrangements

Flagship Investments • Faculty • Dr. Stephen Gosden, Music Theory • Dr. Sarah Provost, Musicology • Music Education Specialist • Marketing • We spend $90K annually • Publicity, In house flyers and programs, Coordinator • We are marketing to recruit and to build audiences • Advertising Funds • Recruitment (engaging adjunct faculty)

TBD • Earlier lines were filled with Applied Faculty to aid recruitment • We have relied on adjuncts • We have a rich talent pool with JSO in Applied areas

  26. Flagship Investments • Allow M.M. at nearly no additional cost • Faculty lines added through FS • 2 GA positions: 1 from COAS, 1 from endowed award • GA positions balance out faculty teaching for M.M. • Cross Listed courses allow faculty to teach MM and BM students at the same time

Flagship Investments • Survey Says: • 112 Web Based surveys, September 2013 • Alumni and current students • 83% of respondents want to pursue a M.M. • potentially 84 percent of Alumni and current students would choose UNF’s M.M. as their first choice of graduate programs • More than 57 percent of current music students will be pursuing graduate school after graduation • of these students, 57 percent would consider going to UNF

  28. Future Needs • Technology Degree • Barry Greene: Recording Studio • $25K family gift, $10K Mayo • Viable degree for 21st Century musicians • Collaborations: • Computing, Business, Communications • Significant increase in FTE (80 -100 new students)
