Can we help? Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies Team: Tony Weighell (Head of Team) Tina Yates (part time – CDs and UK BRAG) Tara Pelembe – mainly OTs Elizabeth Moore (part time – steering group) Nikki Chapman – marine and proposals advice.
Remits; JNCC - • Advise Government on the development and implementation of policies for, or affecting, nature conservation in the UK and internationally • Provide advice and disseminate knowledge on nature conservation issues affecting the UK and internationally • Create common standards throughout the UK for nature conservation, including monitoring, research, and the analysis of results • Commission or support research that is deemed relevant to these functions. NB – very much a support and advisory role.
So what CAN we do? Help and advise. We can - • let you know about calls for bids for research funding • representation on UK BRAG • provide help with filling in research proposals • circulate research papers and reports • a little bit of research funding support • some help with training • help with networking More…..
Training and research programme – some examples; • Isle of Man Wildlife Trust recently had GIS training. JNCC paid for trainer to visit Isle of Man (£1000 grant) • Call for nominations for short training courses still open – first come first served – around £1000 • Blue turtle award – deadline for nominations 25th October - £500 + £1000 • Research Programme at the moment 2 calls per year, up to 70% funding
Training and research programme steering group Applications should be via the Island Government rep. but can be from Non-Government Organisations. • Andrew McCutcheon – Guernsey • John Pinel – Jersey • Liz Charter – Isle of Man
Networking – we can help Being able to let you know relies on being able to contact the right people.. OT and CD opt-in mailing list http://eepurl.com/07cE Working with Cayman Island rep to develop web site with discussion forum for Caribbean. Could be useful model for CDs – watch this space.
