How is this useful in my class? Please complete evaluation form athttp://findings.tcnj.sgizmo.com • “I will find some way to use it, by golly!” • Will Python work, if students need to pick up C++ later? • JES may not be a good enough IDE to figure out the errors, not as good as IDLE. • Doesn’t help with parentheses, for example. • Blocks worlds helps with syntax, but doesn’t lead to marketable (e.g., can get an internship) skill. • Want to bring in more media into MediaComp for Honors course. Good refresher. • Steganography fun algorithm. • Can we do this piecemeal? Add some media into existing courses? • Want students to learn data structure classes in java Collections.
More: How this is useful in my class? • Introducing all media at front, then let students pick their media for same concept. • Really interesting to try. • 7 weeks of picture, 1 week of sound => works well. Wants to do more next time. • Could use this in journalism class, e.g., infographics, weather images, etc. • Try using still images and movies in intro Python course. • At beginning, do Scratch and IDLE (Python). Myro lets you do both. • Team up with music faculty. Try out music with Scratch ala Jesse Heines at U. Mass –Lowell. • “Objects First” is no longer so emphasized, as if we knew what it meant. • Would like to combine this with videogame study. (Maybe for film students, too?)
More: How to use this? • Like that this is gender-neutral. • Girls aren’t keen on “videogames” in the sense of first-person shooters. • Want some interactivity, ability to read mouse/Wiimote. • Adding PicoBoard from Scratch into Python • Can add interactivity with art for fascinating new media. • Comparative experiments for Alice vs. MediaComp. • How do we grade the media? There’s the subjectivity of the art. • Easy way to fix pass rates: Pass everyone.
