Project Overview • Idea generation project • Working with external partner • Soccer by Design (SBD) Tournaments • https://www.sbdeventmanagement.com/ • Students are charged with: • Proposing new potential sponsors to SBD “CEO” to pitch for an agreement • Developing ideas to enhance sponsor ROI
Description of SBD Tournaments • SBD Tournamentsis a full-service event management company specializing in youth sporting events • SBD manages and owns events ranging from single day 3v3 soccer tournaments to three-day college showcases • SBD manages over 25 events annually that serve over 1200 participants over 10 states
Why SBD? • Local “small” business with limited staff • Accessible decision maker • They actually want our assistance and greater potential of actually utilizing ideas
Project Timeline • SBD management visits class (week 2 or 3) • Sponsor content in class (next 4 weeks) • SBD management returns for presentations (two classes week 7 or 8)
Project Parameters & Tasks • Student provided with some existing content • Inventory (web presence, labor for installing signage, space for booth) • Pricing tiers • Attendance numbers at past year’s events • Student responsibility includes: • Investigating prospect appropriateness & suitability
Project Tasks (continued) • Researching the business (web site and/or visit with management) to learn more about the product and/or services sold by the sponsor, target market, and current marketing activities • Proposing content that could assist sponsors with generating awareness, educating, & driving sales • Event enhancement activity (e.g., halftime competition) • In booth activity (demonstration, game, giveaway)
Project Benefits for Students • Presenting to an actual business & staff • Initiates thought regarding logic, feasibility, appropriateness of business under consideration • Requires developing feasible and appealing ideas that work for both SBD and sponsor
Executing the Project in Your Class • Potential sport entities • High school athletics programs • Youth sport leagues • Weekend tournaments (youth, adult) • Privately owned single or multi-sport facilities staging “in house” programming • Municipal based sport and rec programs • Some outsourced operations to private company
