04-14 Sexual Harassment
04-14Sexual Harassment • Sexual harassment among members of the Brunswick Fire Company No. 1 is prohibited. • For the purpose of this procedure, sexual harassment is defined as follows:
04-14Sexual Harassment • Unwelcome sexual advances, request for sexual favors, and other verbal, written, or physical conduct of a sexual nature that constitutes sexual harassment when: • Submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of an individual’s membership;
04-14Sexual Harassment • Submission to or rejection of such conduct is used as the basis for membership decisions affecting such individual; • Or such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual’s work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment.
04-14Sexual Harassment • This definition is taken from the guidelines of the United State Equal Opportunity Employment Commission. • These guidelines define sexual harassment as a form of sexual discrimination and therefore a violation of title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
04-14Sexual Harassment • Complaints, in writing, should be made to the Chief and President. • If a case arises in which the Chief and/or President is the target of the complaint, the following procedure shall be followed:
04-14Sexual Harassment • If the complaint is directed against the Chief, then the complaint, in writing, shall be presented to the next Senior Officer, and the President. • If the complaint is directed against the President, then the complaint, in writing, shall be presented to the Chief, and the Vice-President.
04-14Sexual Harassment • The right of privacy of all members involved will be respected throughout the investigation and ensuing disciplinary proceedings, if any. • Retaliation against complaints is strictly prohibited. • New members along with present members shall be trained on an annual basis, in relation to Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures.
