  2. What is Information • An intangible entity, • A commodity, • A critical resource, and • A process It is highly personal and varies from person to person, place to place, and time to time

  3. Information and Knowledge • For me recorded knowledge is information • Tacit knowledge • Explicit knowledge • Embedded knowledge But we can’t know everything. We need to know from where we can get quality knowledge and information in a cost-effective and timely manner

  4. Domains of IKW • Information for decision-making, • Knowledge for problem-solving, and • Wisdom for controlling our behavior In the Internet era, there is ascent of intangibles to control the moments of truth First MoT is when we make decisions, and Second MoT is when we face the consequences of our decisions

  5. Quality of Information • Quality is fitness for the purpose, and • Zero defect at a given point of time Quality of decisions depends upon the quality of information. Hence, we must know how to evaluate information for assuring its quality.

  6. Evaluation Criteria-1 • Accuracy • Authority • Currency • Disclaimer • Target Audience • Links and pointers • Purpose of the source/site

  7. Evaluation Criteria-2 • Completeness • Uniqueness • Ease of use • Attractiveness • Simple terminology • Brevity • Usefulness

  8. Evaluation Criteria- 3 • Transparency • Effectiveness • Maintenance • Accessibility • User friendliness • Responsivenss • Multilingualism • Interoperability • Manageability • Preservation
