The ELA program in DPS • We are required by law to provide ESL services to ELL students • Students exit the ELA program when they show proficiency on the ACCESS test and in their classroom • Parents have options! • Option 1: Spanish instruction (students gradually transition into English) • Option 2: Mainstream English classroom, students receive pull-out support • Option 3: Deny services, this is HIGHLY discouraged. Students are closely monitored and still take the ACCESS test every year.
