This presentation gives a case study of how a grass-root-based NGO in western Kenya has managed to effectively monitor a comprehensive HIV/AIDS program.
3. Introduction In Kenya 2.2 Million people leave with HIV infection
Current figures show that the rates are decreasing-Currently at 6.5%
At National level there are policy issues and programs in consideration
Notable program is the National Aids Control Council (NACC)
There has also been employment of 100 nutritionists in government hospitals countrywide as a recognition of importance of nutrition in HIV management
There are also grassroots efforts, mostly through various donor funded NGOs. One of this is the Rural Outreach Program (ROP) in Western Kenya
4. The program Program title:Improving the quality of care given to young children for better nutrition outcomes targeting households affected by HIV/AIDS in Butere Division, Butere-Mumias Districts, Western Kenya
Program duration: Three years
Supported by: Bernard van Leer Foundation, the Netherlands
5. The program is based on the information that: The impact of HIV on young children is one of the most conspicuous effect of the scourge
Mitigating effects of HIV/AIDS on children requires varied interventions
The program targets children between 0-8 years- most vulnerable in the target community
6. The program is one year old and has at least gone through all the stages of program life cycle
