  1. Lego Mindstorms Team Jams: James, Alex, Michael, Sam and Carl

  2. Structure of Presentation • Outline of tasks • Introduction of team members • Sensors & Actuators • Initial Ideas • Testing • Development & Adaptation

  3. Tasks • Cans need to be removed from an arena • Cans need to be removed from an arena whilst navigating around obstacles • Hunt a prey robot and avoid a predator robot

  4. Alex - Structure and design testing James - Programming and Sensors Michael - Programming and Testing Sam - Design and Construction Team Roles

  5. Sensors and Actuators • 1x Touch Sensor (bumper) • 1x Light Sensor (boundary detection) • 2x Motors (movement)

  6. Initial Ideas • Front & rear bumper • Light sensor to detect can • 6 wheels connected with gears • Slow but high torque & traction

  7. Testing • Tested boundary awareness • Sensitivity of bumper to differentiate between cans/obstacles/robots • Gearing & sizes of wheels • Field of view of IR emitter/receiver

  8. Development • Blocked off IR receiver to limit FoV • Front bumper for objects & cans • Vertical light sensor to detect boundary • 4 wheels connected with gears • Small and compact chassis

  9. Program • All objectives in one small program • Initial setup • Sensor readings & logical comparisons • Variable display

  10. Evidence

  11. Evaluation • The project has gone well overall • The objectives were completed • Some small problems occurred during development • Our ideas were on the whole fairly good ones • We tried to use simple solutions where possible
