Defining the Goal By 2020, improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20% while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20%.

Projections – Improving CV Health Worsening Obesity Fasting Glucose Healthy Diet Physical Activity Improving Smoking High Cholesterol High Blood Pressure • If recent trends in cardiovascular health behavior and health factor levels continue, CV health will ONLY improve by 6% by 2020. • However, small improvements make a big difference. Improving 1 health behavior to the next category can reduce risk of death by 21%.

Market Leadership: Our Model for Success Market Board Board Chair and Board President Provides central, strategic volunteer leadership of the market. Responsible for development and oversight of market plan, including both revenue and impact goals. Convenes the resources (financial and volunteer) to deliver AHA mission in the market. Leads by example with personal and corporate support of market goals. Co-led by Board Chair & Board President. Meets minimum 4x/year. Recommended 6x/year. • Issues Being Addressed by Market Volunteers: • Improving My Family’s Health • Making My Community Healthier • Delivering Emotional Support to Patients & Their Families • Ensuring Quality Healthcare for All • Helping End Heart Disease and Stroke in Our Lifetime Stewardship Cabinet Focus is on Companies & Stewardship. Includes Past, Current and Incoming Chairs of Board and Events. Responsible for increasing resource capacity and for cultivation, stewardship & communication of outcomes to top supporters. Leadership Development Committee Focus is on Volunteer Leadership Recruitment. Responsible for recruitment of board members and 3- year recruitment of chairs. Includes both corporate and medical volunteers. Meets 2-4x/year
