Harcourt TrophiesReading/Language Arts Program Includes: • Shared literature, guided comprehension, vocabulary, independent reading, flexible grouping, grammar, and spelling. • Multi-level materials. • Extra support. . **Please share in your child’s reading when he/she brings his/her reading book home.

  3. Saxon Math , IXL, & Houghton Mifflin Harcourt • Utilization of all 3 programs • Five days per week • Online resources • Flexible grouping • More information regarding Houghton Mifflin Math will be relayed to you soon!

  4. Math Homework • Students will have time to start Math homework in class. Your child SHOULD, however, have up to 30 minutes of math per night (M-TH) to do at HOME. • Students are strongly encouraged to check their work with the assistance of their parents. Thank you in advance for your support at home.

  5. Our Overall Math Goal... to utilize our 3 math resources on a daily basis to meet each of your child’s math needs, as well as teach them each of the core standards for their grade.

  7. Special Rotation • 5 day rotation. • Specials will be announced on the class website, • newsletters and in agendas. • Please help your child wear appropriate • shoes and clothing for P.E.

  8. Agendas:$6.00 *Each student will use an agenda daily. *Agendas need to be signed nightly. This is the student’s responsibility to ensure that it is signed and is part of their homework. *Agendas need to be in school everyday. *Replacement agendas will be another $6.

  9. Agendas will: • Help improve your child’s organization. • Assist with homework information. • Develop responsibility. • Teach your child to use resources that are available.

  11. HOMEWORK You should expect that your child will have homework every night, M-TH. Homework should be highlighted in their agendas. Students should also be reading and logging their minutes every day. (Between 30-60 minutes.)

  12. SNAP GRADES • This year, we are moving to an electronic grading system. • You can check on your child’s progress as frequently as you would like online. • This system is expensive, so if you’d like to utilize it, we are asking that you pay $3.00 if you choose to participate. • As soon as we have this up and running, we will give you the needed access information.

  13. Report Cards • Due to the utilization of SNAP GRADES, unless requested, a copy of your child’s report card will not be sent home until the final report card • Not all subjects will be graded weekly. • Specialists send their own report attached to the report card at the end of the grading period.

  14. Time for kidsmagazine This is a wonderful NONFICTION resource that we use in correlation with our reading program, and to incorporate weekly, national current events within the classroom $6.00 per student

  15. SNACK • All classes will have a time to eat their snack. • In order to keep our carpets looking new, only water is permitted in each classroom. (There may be an exception to this rule if a class party has been earned.) In addition, please send snacks that do not require a spoon or non-liquid snacks. • We are NUT FREE Room – No nut products please

  16. ATTENDANCE • Daily attendance is VERY IMPORTANT, as is being here on-time. • Being on-time for school will assist your child in developing good work habits. • Students need to be at school 5 minutes before their start time. • Please let your child’s teacher know in advance if your child is going to be absent.

  18. Read to Succeed • We hope all students will read at LEAST 100 hours during the school year. • Hours should be recorded and turned in MONTHLY. (Should be turned in by the first Friday of the first full week of the next month.) • Late calendars will not be accepted. Final deadline is April 30th. • There will be special activities at the end of the year to celebrate your readers.

  19. Read to Succeed Examples of activities: • Water Day • Lunch with the principal • Breakfast • Gift Certificates to a Book Store • T-Shirts • Parents, we’re always looking for new ideas and company donations!

Wax Museum: Students will: • Write a comprehensive report on an individual that interests them and is related to either their cottage or a specific area designated by the teacher. • Prepare a poster. • Dress in costume. • Participate in the evening museum event at the end of the third quarter.

  21. Wax Museum • The report is part of our writing program and a state standard requirement. • It is a fabulous night to invite grandparents, friends, and neighbors.

  23. Project Exploration • Applications are required and teacher approval is a must. Students with the following qualities throughout the school year will be selected to participate in this exciting Project Exploration adventure:

Qualities • Outstanding Citizenship in classrooms and on school grounds. • Positive attitude towards teachers and classmates. • Demonstrates quality listening skills and the ability to follow directions the first time. • Shows responsibility by being in school regularly and on time. • Displays an appropriate sense of maturity.

Field Trips: First Field Trip Where: Halle Heart Center Children’s Museum When: • Tuesday, Sept. 20th – Bisceglia, Hay, Figgins, Garben, Gorman  • Thursday, Sept. 22nd - Anderson, Braathen, Grabowska, Rodriguez, Shinners Second Field Trip Where: Challenger Space Center When: Beginning of May **If you’d like your child to experience these two fun-filled days of hands-on experience, please remember to pay his/her LIFEFUND.
