Secondary Source • is a source of information that comes from someone who WAS NOT present at the event/place/action • a document written about something, but the author was not there • Re-print of a picture/ not the original • Second-hand information • Could even be gossip
Types of Secondary Sources • History Book • Biography (written by someone else) • Almanac (book of maps) • Encyclopedia • Time for Kids • History Based Movies (like History Channel)
What is a reliable source? • Real information that you can TRUST • It can be checked in several places or website and the information is the same
Dictionary • A book in alphabetical order that defines each word
Guide Words • a word printed at the top of the page of a dictionary or other reference book to indicate the first or last item on that page
Thesaurus • A book that lists words in groups of synonyms and related concepts.
Almanac • A handbook, typically published annually, containing information of general interest or on a sport or pastime.
Internet • Google.com (search engine) • not all information on the internet is TRUE • You have to see if the site is secure and reliable
