Copy into your 2Q notebook: End of p. 21-27: Scout and Jem see a “mad” dog coming down the street. Calpurnia calls for Atticus who shoots and kills the dog. Scout and Jem are surprised and impressed that their dad actually knows how to shoot.
Do you think what Jem did to Mrs. Dubose’s flowers was justifiable?
On p. 32, Atticus says, “Never thought Jem’d be the one to lose his head.” Then Scout asks, “Why do we have to keep our heads anyway?” What does she mean by this question? Is that important in life?
On p. 35, Atticus says, “And you know as well as I do what the truth is” as he’s speaking to Heck. What do you think the truth is? What is your opinion on the situation?
Why does Atticus spend his night sitting outside of the courthouse?
