Hug O’War The theme of this poem is that everyone should get along with each other. We should “play a game” where everyone is a winner.
Hug O’War Symbolism Hug O’War- A game where everyone wins. (Symbolizing accepting and loving everyone.) Tug O’War- A game where others get hurt and are people are left as losers. (Symbolizing hurting and not accepting others.)

Hug O’War-Title Hug O’War is the overall idea that everyone should get along instead of playing games where others are left as losers. We need to make everyone feel like a winner.
Hug O’War Hug O’War discusses the importance of loving others and allowing everyone to feel important. We should “play a game” where everyone wins (hug o’war) as opposed to a game where there are losers (tug o’war).
About the Poet • Shel Silverstein was born on September 25, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois and began writing and drawing at a young age. He became a cartoonist, playwright, poet, illustrator performer, recording artist, and Grammy-winning, Oscar-nominated songwriter. • Silverstein is best known as the author of iconic books of prose and poetry for young readers.

The Girl in College There once was a girl at Georgia State. It was homework that she really did hate. She always prepared for each class date. There was never a time she was late. She would definitely get A’s at this rate. She loves all of her classmates. Completing this program is her fate!
