FISDL Program Elements • FISDL: FAA-Industry VHF data link broadcast of FIS/Wx cockpit products • Implementation strategy based on FIS Policy and Requirements Document • AUTOMET/TAMDAR: National capability for collecting (and distributing) wx data from low altitude aircraft operations, below 20-25K feet • Requirements and implementation strategy - joint development with NWS • Provide coverage in data sparse regions • Improve inflight hazard reporting & aviation forecasting • NASA developing TAMDAR* sensor with industry *TAMDAR: Tropospheric Airborne Meteorological Data Reporting
