Enablis Entrepreneurial Network is an NGO which focuses on developing entrepreneurs of small and micro businesses in South Africa. Enablis is a member driven organization in that it accredits entrepreneurs operating in the SME sector as members prior to providing these entrepreneurs with any of its services. We are currently operating in South Africa, East Africa, Tanzania, West Africa and in Rwanda. We have 46 staff across Africa, of which 26 staff are based in South Africa. Enablis provides networking and capacity building support services to its member entrepreneurs And in our banking arm, Enablis Financial Corporation (Pty) Limited, we provide access to finance for our member entrepreneurs. In March 2010 Enablis accredits it’s 1000th member in Africa and also launches in Rwanda 2002 The government of Canada committed to providing seed funding to initiate what would become Enablis. 2007 Enablis launchesinKenya. 2004 EnablisSouthAfrica becomes the first Enablis country of operation
Enablis Members • The target market of Enablis is Entrepreneurs who own small and micro businesses. • Enablis focuses on the Entrepreneur first • The person comes first and then Enablis looks at the entrepreneur’s business needs • The empowerment and on-going support for the entrepreneur is crucial to the entrepreneurs success • This contributes to enhancing the sustainability of the entrepreneurs business hence leading to wealth creation
PROFILE OF THE MEMBER ENTREPRENEURS IN SOUTH AFRICA In South Africa we have approximately 650 members and 1000 members across Africa In terms of the AGE of the the businesses of our entrepreneurs, 36% of our member entrepreneurs businesses in SA are older than 3 years, 44% are less than 3 years old and 20% are in the concept and ideas stages In terms of the BUSINESS SECTORS of our member entrepreneurs in SA - 43% are from the services sector, 23% are from the ICT sector and 13% are from Tourism and Transport Services 70% of our member entrepreneur are black and 35% are women.
FROM WHERE DO WE GET OUR MEMBERS? • Enablis runs the biggest business plan competition in South Africa as well as across Africa • This year we are running this competition for the 6th time. • Last year we had over 6000 registrations with 2500 applications • We shortlist to the top 300, then to top 100 finalists and then to the top 10 winners. • We recruit as many entrepreneurs as we can from the top 300

Enablis entrepreneurs created an average of 10.2 jobs per member 72% of Enablis members reported steady or increased turnover since 2008 71% of Enablis members reported steady or increased profits since 2008 38% created new businesses 82% reported that Enablis has helped them grow their business 84% reported that Enablis provided them with networking opportunities leading to an average of 9.4 new business contacts per member 43% of respondents have been in business for longer than 3 years. CHALLENGES FACING ENABLIS Financial constraints as Enablis increases the Entrepreneurial growth within each of the existing Enablis offices in South Africa. Financial constraints which restricts Enablis from expanding to all provinces within South Africa. Successfully passing the network onto our more experienced member entrepreneurs.
