  2. Early Life • Born in 1984 White Plains, New York • His mom was a psychiatrist and his dad was a dentist • He had three sisters named Randi, Donna, and Arielle

  3. Computer Background • Father hired David Newman to teach Mark about computer programming • Newman said that it was sometimes hard to keep up with Mark • He made a program called “primitive” which connected all of the computers in his house to connect his fathers dental office

  4. Education • Enrolled at Harvard in September 2002. • Started learning computer communications in middle school. • Attended Philips Exeter Academy before attending Harvard

  5. Social Network at Harvard • Dating site for Harvard but then left to make his own social network with his friends • Made a site called The Facebook • Ran from his Harvard dorm room till 2004 • Dropped out of college to move the company to California

  6. Success After Dropout Decision • Accel invested 12.7 million dollars into Facebook which was only offered to ivy league students • His site got to 5.5 million users in December 2005

  7. Lawsuit • Harvard connection claimed that Zuckerburg stole their idea • They said that Mark needed to pay for their business losses • Lawyers found incriminating messages of him that he purposely stole Harvard Connections idea • The initial settlement was made to 65 million dollars

  8. About Facebook • Social networking service • It has over a billion users • You can make your own personal profile and exchange messages • Users may join common interest groups

Impact on Society • Changes way people communicate • Allows you to talk to everyone you’ve ever met • Also allows you to talk to people you’ve never met • Can see what people are doing without being physically there or asking • Has led to a decrease on original communication methods • People commonly have smartphones to access social networks

The Social Network • Made appearance on SNL making fun of the movie • Said that it did not portray actual events that happened well • Focused too much on the little things • Every item of clothing in the movie was something that he owned • “I wish nobody made a movie of me while I was still alive”

  11. Interesting Facts • Mark Zuckerburg made Facebook blue because he is red-green colorblind • Public profile on Google+ has one picture and a quote that says “I make things” • In 2011 he was the most followed user • In 2010 he donated 100 million dollars to Newark public schools
