Measurement Activities at RNP Context • QoS WG (2002-2003): • Netflow based flow measurement infrastructure • QoS2 WG (2003-2004): • Netflow Data Analysis (Traffic Matrix) • Passive Measurements (NetraMet) • Active Measurements with AMP • Active Measurements with OWAMP • Measurement WG (2004-2005): • piPEs-BR Development and Deployment • RNP Observatory • SLA Monitoring Environment • Measurement 2 WG (2005-2006): • piPEs-BR/GFD Development and Deployment • Interoperation with other network domains (perfSONAR integration)
Current Activities (E2E Performance WG) piPEs-BR/GFD • GFD = General Framework Design – Géant2/JRA1 Deliverable • piPEs-BR/GFD is an architecture designed to provide measurement information using Web Services in order to interoperate with other network domains (eg. Internet2 and Geant2). • Some components have been designed and are being developed to provided the Services specified in the GFD document (MP, MA, LS, TopS, TS, RP).

piPEs-BR/GFD Command Line MP (CL MP) • Joint work with Internet2 (Jeff) • Implement CL MP modules based on perfSONAR messages • Mesurement Executor • Request Manager • Configuration Module • Test on RNP backbone CL MP using OWAMP • Design OWAMP messages standard based on existing messages • Deploy CL MP service on main RNP connections
piPEs-BR/GFD: Current Status Publish and Discovery Service (LS) • Uses UDDI technology • Development of a Lookup library for the DPS • Adaptation of the DPS to work with NMWG schema • Developed in JAVA • Interest in Multi-LS design and testing
piPEs-BR/GFD Test Manager (TM) • Will implement TopS and TS services • The idea with this component is to facilitate the visualization tool development incorporating some functionalities such as: • Data recovering • Test scheduling • Data composition • Topology Service – TopS • It will store and provide topology information to users. • It can have a software to “discover” the network topology and a specialized database to store the topology information • Transformation Service – TS • Aggregate, correlate or filter the data according to users needs. • Also catch and store the measurement data to users avoiding new connections and message sharing between users and other services.
piPEs-BR/GFD Resource Protector (RP) • The first version will control the RNP´s MPs schedules in order to protect network resources. • The initial resource to be protected will be link bandwidths. • The information about the MP schedules and required bandwidth will be stored in a relational database. • The total consumed bandwidth per link for the desired time frame will be compared with link capacities and the test will be authorized or not depending on established policies (eg. Upper limit on link capacity utilization and user data utilization). • Initially, only the services for MP tests control will be implemented.
