Parents: What You Need to Know • Under the new scale, a passing grade is still a passing grade (60% or higher), and a failing grade is still a failing grade (59% or below). • Under the new scale, there will be equal, incremental steps – a failing grade is a 50 to 59, rather than a 0 to 59. • All other steps for grading remain the same.

Why The New Grading System? • Follows 2010-2011 District Improvement Plan to review grading policy and ensure high expectations for student growth • Aligns to U-46 Elementary Grading System as well as new Common Core state standards • Accurately reflects earned grades and ensures fair and consistent practices across each U-46 middle and high school • New scale allows students who make one or two mistakes to not be over-penalized
New Late Work Policy • Each middle and high school department will implement a late work policy. • Students expected to complete late work for credit. • The late work policy will be posted in students’ class syllabi and on their school’s website.
How Your Students Will Benefit • Students will have the opportunity to earn an A+ on the new scale with a 5. • Students will earn credit for late work. • Keeps students who struggle engaged and prevents them from giving up. • Reduces number of students retaking a class, creating more opportunities for other students.
A Parent’s Look at Infinite Campus • In-progress and posted grades will show % and letter grade • Assignment detail will show the score on the 0-5 point scale after the nightly script has run
Background of the New Grading Scale • The Secondary Grading Committee was established in November 2010 and consisted of middle and high school principals, teachers and community members. • The Secondary Grading Committee presented to the Board of Education in November 2011, November 2012, June 2013. • Researched-based and implemented in other districts: School District 211
