Evidence for General Intellectual Ability (4th – 12th Graders) • Score within the ninth stanine on a full-scale comprehensive test of intellectual ability • High performance on additional individual test of mental ability • Observation of applied advanced reasoning ability • Checklist inventories of behaviors specific to underachieving or disadvantaged gifted learners • Teacher recommendation • Parent / ruardian Recommendation
Evidence for Specific Academic Aptitude (4th – 12th Graders)Language, Math, Science, Social Studies • Composite score within the ninth stanine (1) or more subject test scores of an achievement test • High performance on an additional individual or group test of academic achievement • Student awards or critiques of performance products • Off-level testing • Portfolio of high academic performance • Student progress data • Checklist inventories of behaviors specific to gifted learners • Teacher recommendation • Parent / Guardian recommendation
Evidence for Creative or Divergent Thinking Ability (4th -12th Graders) • Formal assessment measures of a student’s capacity for originality of thought, fluency, elaboration, and flexibility of thought • Informal assessment measures of a student’s capacity for originality of thought, fluency, elaboration, and flexibility of though • High Scores on tests of creative ability • Creative writing samples • Behavioral checklist specific to creative behavior • Anecdotal observations of original ideas, products or problem solving • Teacher recommendation • Parent / Guardian recommendation
Evidence for Leadership Skills (4th – 12th Graders) • Documentation of student willingness to assume leadership roles in class • Documentation of student willingness to assume leadership roles in community • Documentation of student willingness to assume leadership roles in student organization • Sociograms Questionnaires designed to assess leadership characteristics • Peer recommendations • Teacher recommendation • Parent / Guardian recommendation • Behavioral checklist or observations specific to leadership behavior • Portfolio entries that display leadership skills • Offices held by student in extracurricular and class government
Evidence for Visual and Performing Arts(4th – 12th Graders)Music, Art, Dance, Drama • Auditions • Letters of recommendations by V/P Professional • Products (paper, audio, video, pictures) • Portfolio assessment by specialist or professional artists • Awards or critiques of performance (as individual, not team) • Portfolio of visual or performing arts ability • Questionnaires • Teacher of V/P Arts recommendations
Evidence for Primary Talent Pool (K – 3rd Graders) • Collection of evidence demonstrating student performance • Checklist of behaviors indicative of high potential behavior • Diagnostic data (screening measures) • Continuous progress data • Anecdotal records • “Available” formal test data • Parent / Guardian interview or questionnaire • Primary review committee recommendation • Petition system • Other valid and reliable documentation
