  2. The veterinarian will look at your pet's eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and skin. He or she will also measure your pet's pulse, heart rate, and temperature. This information is used to determine whether your pet is in good health.

  3. If you have a young child, you may want to have him or her accompany you on your visit. Pet owners can also take the time to teach their children about the importance of veterinary visits.

  4. While a veterinary visit may be a bit intimidating for some pet owners, it's essential for the health of your pet. In the long run, it can be a lot more beneficial for your pet than a trip to the emergency room.

  5. The vet will be looking for abnormal masses on the chest and abdomen. Usually, your veterinarian will use a stethoscope to listen for your pet's heart sounds. Also, he or she will look for swellings, lumps, and other abnormalities.

  6. Your veterinarian will be able to tell you if your pet is overweight, and will be able to recommend a healthy eating plan. He or she may administer a vaccination or even perform a spay or neuter surgery.

  7. For example, if you have a dog with arthritis, he or she might need to undergo a test c. However, if you have a cat, he or she might need a dental exam. Approximately 85% of dogs and cats have some form of dental disease.
