  4. Service Projects • Meet the Blazers- During this service project, I along with my fellow football player volunteered our time one Saturday to spend it with the kids. We taught them the many aspects that go along with football and ways they can improve their game. • Blazer Build-During this project, the team was assigned to a warehouse here in Valdosta to work on building the walls and studs that will make up the house. It was a rainy day so we were unable to make it to the site of construction. • Blazer Blood Drive- My job for this service project was to go out around the campus and try and find as many people as I could to help out by giving blood. The Drive was put on by the VSU Football Team and was ran by the American Red Cross. There was a good turn out and the blood drive was very successful.

  5. Meet the Blazers • Hundreds of area girls and boys participated in “Meet the Blazers” day at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium in late August. The football, dance and cheer- leading teams held free clinics for children ages 5-13, who also enjoyed lunch and an autograph session with their favorite VSU athletes. • Blazer football players and coaches engaged their youngest fans in football drills and discussed the importance of staying focused both on and off the field.

Blazer Build -During he month of January, the football team along with other valdosta state athletic teams volunteered their time to help out the Valdosta/Lowndes Counter division of Habitat for Humanity. -There time and dedication paid off because they were successful in building a family home in less than a week -During my time working, I was given the task of nailing the stud walls and stacking them according. I also helped by rearranging the warehouse

Blazer Blood Drive • The football team, sponsored a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross on Monday afternoon on the mezzanine of the PE Complex. • The Red Cross is helped greatly by the determination of the players to get out and get volunteers to show up. • I personally had 4 volunteers show up, but was unable to give blood myself because of practice.

  8. South Georgia Golf Classic • The South Georgia Gold Classic was the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Football Team. • Each player was given the chance to help out by sending letters to friends and family, asking them to send action items or even sponsor a green. • I got a lot of help from hometown businesses and even from my grandfather. • The Tournament was held at Kinderlou Gold Course.

  9. What did I get out of it? • When doing these community service projects I learned many skills that will help me later on in life. • In doing these projects, we also earned respect from the city of Valdosta and the people that live here. • As a volunteer I also learned how to use strong leadership skills because it Blazer build I was appointed overseer of my station.

  10. Enjoyment? • When doing Meet the Blazer’s I got the chance to help a lot of kids, by teaching them the fundamentals of football. • I really enjoyed changing these kids lives and look forward to it each year. • I also enjoyed doing Blazer Build because I knew that I was helping a family that was in need. I got to work hands-on with the equipment and I learned life skills.
