What is Thespians? • Thespians is a national honorary society for theatre students. Its purpose is to reward dedicated individuals for the work they put in during their high school years. • Thespians is a club for serious theatre students.
How do you join? • Active Thespian members are inducted after receiving 15 points from both technical and acting work (must be involved in both). • Documenting points begins during high school. Students may not retroactively acquire points.
Benefits of Thespians • Membership in Thespians gives you a place to call home and a deeper sense of ownership within the theatre department. • Thespians are eligible to attend State and National Conferences (at discounted rates). • Thespians are eligible to audition for college scholarships (both in technical theatre & acting). • Students may letter in theatre after accruing a certain amount of points.
What is the Missouri State Conference? • Missouri State Thespian Conference is an annual gathering of all Thespians across the state. • State conference is an educational conference consisting of theatre workshops, shows, theatre competitions & activities, auditions (11th, 12thgrade members only), and social networking with troupes across the state.
Activities planned • Workshops • Performances • College meet and greets • Individual Events: (Thespian Members Only—monologue, duet acting, group acting, solo musical, duet musical, group musical, costume design, lighting design,scenic design, sound design, theatre marketing, stage management, short film) • Meals with OPHS, Staley, and Northtown • Night life • Fun!
Who can go? • Active Thespian Members. • Serious theatre students pursing active membership.
How much does it cost? • Active Thespian Members: Registration: $85.00 Hotel Fee: $90.00 (3 nights @ 4 to a room) Transportation Fee: $40.00 Meals: We will eat lunch and dinner out please bring enough for 4 dinners, 3 lunches. We will bring breakfast snacks to eat in the hotel (bagels, fruit, breakfast bars, protein shake etc.) • Non-Thespian Members: Registration: $100.00 Hotel Fee: $90.00 (3 nights @ 4 to a room) Transportation Fee: $40.00 Meals: We will eat lunch and dinner out please bring enough for 4 dinners, 3 lunches. We will bring breakfast snacks to eat in the hotel (bagels, fruit, breakfast bars, protein shake etc.)
Fundraising • We will be fundraising during Legally Blonde which may help offset some of the costs for the hotel fee, and transportation.
Itinerary • We will be leaving afterschool, Wednesday evening on January 8th. • Wewill depart St. Louis Saturday evening, January 11th, and arrive in KC late that night.
Deadlines • Conference Registration Fee: Due September 27th (NO EXCEPTIONS) • Individual Event Fee: Due October 7th • Room Registration Fee: Due November 11th • Transportation Fee: Due December 9th
Oak Street Conflicts • Members of Oak Street: Only Active Thespian Members who are Juniors/Seniors pursuing theatre in college, and who are planning on auditioning may attend. • These individuals must provide their own transportation with an adult (approved by the District) to drive to Columbia for the Oak Street competition. • They may not participate in Individual Events (Tech challenge, ImprovOlypics, Musical solo, etc.) only Scholarship Auditions.
